PV+Solar India Expo 2010, organised by Electronics
Today, India's FIRST Techno-Economics Electronics
monthly journal, now in its 43rd year of publication, and
the Pioneer Electronic Exhibitions Organiser in India,
received tremendous response from B2B and USER
community, which was termed ‘‘most satisfying’’ by all
stakeholders in the event. With 57 exhibitors,19 from
overseas, the event attracted about 5,000 visitors from
all over India and the neighbouring countries. The
concurrent Technical Workshop and the International
Conference was attended by over 900 delegates.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Farooq Abdullah,
Minister for New and Renewable Energy,
Government of India.
The Government of India has ambitious plans for the
development of PV and Solar industry and recently
established the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar
Mission for this purpose. India is endowed with vast
solar energy potential. About 5,000 trillion kWh per year
energy is incident over India's land area with most parts
receiving 4-7 kWh per sq. m per day. Hence, both
technology routes for conversion of solar radiation into
heat and electricity, namely, solar thermal and solar
photovoltaic, can effectively be harnessed providing
huge scalability for solar energy in India.
Currently, the estimated capacity in India is about
400 MW for cells and about 1,000 MW for modules.
The capacity of PV cells and modules in the country is
expected to cross 750 and 1250 MW by the end
of 2010.
The Solar Mission plans to create an enabling policy
framework for the deployment of 20,000 MW of solar
power by 2022 by ramping up capacity of gridconnected
solar power generation to 1,000 MW by
2013; an additional 3,000 MW by 2017 through the
mandatory use of the renewable purchase obligation by
utilities backed with a preferential tariff. This capacity is
expected to be more than doubled - reaching 10,000
MW installed power by 2017 or more, based on the
enhanced and enabled international finance and
technology transfer. The Government plans to promote
programmes for off grid applications, reaching 1,000
MW by 2017 and 2,000MW by 2022.
On the anvil are plans to achieve 15 million square
metres solar thermal collector areas by 2017 and
20 million by 2022 and to deploy 20 million solar
lighting systems for rural areas by 2022. The
Government is also targeting to develop "Solar Cities"
by 2012 to promote the usage of Renewable energy
in urban areas and offering support to local
Governments. One of the Indian States i.e. Andhra
Pradesh has already announced the development of
a solar farm cluster called 'Solar City' on a 10,000
acre land. While several incentives for Solar and PV
industries already exist, subsequently launch of
the National Solar Mission, the Government is soon
expected to come out with a fresh comprehensive
Package of Incentive to accelerate the tempo of
growth in PV+Solar industries to generate energy
from the Sun.
PV+Solar India Expo 2011 will be held on
April 19-21, 2011 at Bombay Exhibition
Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai, India. Mumbai, the Financial/Commercial Capital of India,
generates 5% of India's GDP, and accounts
for 25% of industrial output, and 70% of
capital transactions to India's economy. The
Mega city serves as an economic hub of
India, contributing 10% of factory
employment, 25% of industrial output, 33%
of income tax collections, 60% of customs
duty collections, 20% of central excise tax
collections, 40% of India's foreign trade and
Rs. 40 billion in corporate taxes.
Concurrently with the Exhibition, a 2-day
International Conference and two Technical
Workshops would also be organised.
PV+Solar India Expo 2011 aims to provide
a common Forum to all stakeholders in the
field of photovoltaic and solar energy i.e.
Central and state government agencies,
local administrations, such as,
municipalities, Gram Panchayats, Industry
representatives, Manufacturers, Solution
providers, Financial and Banking
Institutions, R&D and academic
organisations and most importantly –
THE USERS – to achieve the ambitious
targets and goals of the Government of
India.
PV+Solar India Expo 2011 provides an
ideal opportunity to global players in
Photovoltaic, Solar Thermal, Solar
Architecture, Photovoltaic Equipment,
Products, Materials, and Systems, to
display their products and capabilities to
explore emerging Business Opportunities in
India and neighbouring South Asian
countries.
